Vision Wanda

Vision Wanda

Vision and Wanda

The MCU has done a Marvelous take on the love affair of the android and witch known respectively as Vision, and Wanda. Together these two form a romantic bond, and seen in Wanadavision from Disney+ they would have been married with children. Similarly this is what happens in the comic books.

Of course it can't be just a simple meet cute for these two Avengers. During the events of Avengers #76, Wanda is forcefully taken to an alternate dimension ruled by one named Arkon. He is a vicious barbarian who wishes to make Wanda his bride. The Avengers come to rescue their teammate, and it's in these panels that would start the beginning of their love interest. When they first meet they' re unknowing of who each other is. But that does not stop each other from trying their absolute best to save one another.

It's not until Avengers #91 do the two share a moment of spark. As hostages to the Kree during the events of the Kree/Skrull war, Wanda tries for a kiss, but is unwelcomed. Vision at this point still has much to learn about human emotion. Much time passes and when Wanda's brother Pietro goes missing, it is Vision in Avengers #108 who offers his shoulder for support.

In Giant Sized Defenders #4 Vision learns that Wanda is the only woman for him and asks her to marry him. She eagerly agrees and they are betrothed in a temple garden alongside Mantis and her lover, a Cotati-plant man doppelgänger of Swordsman.

Limited Series Vol 1 & 2

In 1982 a 4 issues limited series depicts the life of the happy couple without their Avengers teammates. This series makes a huge change in Wanda Maximoff's family history. The mutant villain Magneto is retconned as Wanda's father. Living the suburbs of Leonia, New Jersey comes with it's own challenges, like annoying neighbors, Halloween, and a splash of super-villain twins.

A second series lasting 12 issues was published in 1985. This is the story line in which Wanda magically becomes pregnant and deliver two sons. After being named chairman of the Avengers, Vision is unable to manage his duties between his family, and his team. This adds stress to their relationship, but not nearly as much as, having their house burned to the ground. This limited series starts as the happy couple begins to build their new home. It is a miracle that twin boys Tommy, and Billy are born. Quickly it's realized by Agatha Harkness that the boys are a product of Wanda's reality warping mutant powers. The boys cease to exist when their souls are given back to their demonic owner, Mephisto.

Avengers West Coast

Vision and Wanda become members of the West Coast Avengers in Avengers West Coast #37. In this run Vision is disassembled and reprogrammed without his connection to WonderMan. This is an integral part of Vision's "humanity." He also returns without his memories of his loving bride, or the life they had built. Eventually Vision decides to end things with Wanda.

The two go through much in this series which includes both of them getting new designs and names. At the end of the "Vision Quest" event in WCA # 45 we get our first look at colorless Vision as seen in the MCU' s Wandavision.

In WCA #55 we see the debut of the Dark Scarlet Witch and her new costume. Her first cover appearance is on the following issue WCA #56 Upon learning the shocking truth about her twin boys, she suffers a nervous breakdown and descends into madness. This design is what resembles the Scarlet Witch we see in Doctor Strange 2.

The Death of Vision

The grief of the loss of her children once again comes to light, when Wanda tries to recreate them with her reality-warping powers. Through several manipulated events, vision crashes a Quinjet into the Avengers mansion. After this terrible event a fight ensues and ends with She-Hulk tearing Vision's body apart. Later Tony Stark rebuilds Vision and takes his place alongside the Avengers. During the Avengers vs X-Men event Vision and Scarlet Witch finally come face-to-face. This extremely awkward moment is a powerful reminder of the love they had lost.

Friends in the End

This odd Marvel couple has had it's ups and downs, and didn't  end up together in the end. They have however become friends and have moved onto new beginnings.
